FAQ

Why have 3 plastic surgeons dissuaded me from getting Rhinoplasty? Is my case that difficult?

Thanks for your question. What you are asking for is very common and seems doable for you with surgery. In fact, these are typically the main goals I'm hoping to achieve in my own patients. While I cannot speak for the surgeons with whom you met, I would think rhinoplasty would be reasonable to consider. The most important factor towards success is appropriate expectations. Digital simulations are helpful to ensure you and your surgeon are on the same aesthetic page. Best of luck! - Dr. C.

Lip reduction effect on nasolabial angle?

Hi, and thanks for your question! Without photos it's difficult to give you personalized advice, but in general a lip reduction has only minor effects on the nasolabial angle. You are correct that removing lip mucosa and subsequent suturing will roll the lip inward but this usually doesn't have a significant impact near the nose. That said, there are several components of that angle, including the base of the nose, the bony structure beneath, and the lip itself; all of which can be modified as necessary to achieve the desired goal. I recommend you find a board-certified facial plastic surgeon to see what would work best for you. Good luck! - Dr. C

I have a flat nose, but when I smile the tip curves and drops down. Can I change it naturally?

Nope. They don't work. The changes you see when smiling are a combination of poor tip support and your smiling muscles pulling up your cheeks. Also, there is a small muscle called the depressor septi muscle that can sometimes pull the nose down a bit. This can be relaxed with Botox or divided during surgical rhinoplasty. An in-person consultation with a board-certified rhinoplasty specialist would be very helpful as a next step. Best of luck!
