FAQ

DDD breast reduction needing 527g of breast tissue removed for insurance coverage. Will there be anything left?

While many insurance companies have requirements for breast weight removal, others don’t cover breast reduction at all or base it on symptoms. My experience shows that symptoms can be severe, even with patients who need smaller breast reductions. It is never wise to chase a particular weight in the operating room. During surgery, the focus has to be on giving the patients a great result, regardless of the resection weight (do what looks right, not what scale says). This may not guarantee insurance coverage but in the hands of a properly trained plastic surgeon, it will guarantee a good outcome. Breast weight resections can be very different from patient to patient based on tissue density, and no surgeon can accurately predict the eventual cup size. Be cautious about letting the insurance company dictate how much tissue should be removed. Rely on the surgeon’s expertise.

Female, 18. I know all breasts are asymmetrical, but mine feel like they should be on two different bodies

You would definitely be a candidate for surgical correction, and there are many options. If you like the size of the smaller breast, then a breast reduction on the larger breast, to match, is a great solution. If breast size is still growing/changing it’s wise to wait until breast size has stabilized.

Will breast asymmetry issue go away after breast implants removal?

Hello, if remove implants and don't intend to replace them then the capsule will likely seal down on its own. It would be important to have drains afterward to prevent fluid build up (seroma) that could keep the pocket open. Removing the capsule isn't always necessary but can be beneficial, even partially, in cases like yours. Removing the lateral capsule will help that tissue heal quicker. I would also generally recommend this be done via a submammary incision rather than via the axillary incision. Good luck!
