Facial Surgery – Everything you need to know

Facial surgeries are evolving and becoming increasingly popular.

Find out all you need to know before choosing a treatment.

Facial surgery can be a life-changing decision that enhances your appearance and boosts your self-confidence. However, it’s important to be well-informed before undergoing any procedure. We strongly recommend that you do your due diligence and consult a qualified professional first, before going ahead.

Choosing the right surgeon

Surgeries of any kind carry risks, from infections, to bleeding, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Specific risks vary depending on the procedure. But a reputable plastic surgeon or doctor will discuss potential complications with you and how they can be minimised, and managed post-operation. We recommend you check if your surgeon is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS for US readers) or EBOPRAS – short for European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery

In many cases, non-surgical options which can be simply injected, such as fillers, Botox, or alternatively laser treatments, may achieve your desired results with much less risk and quicker recovery time. Before you consider cosmetic facial surgery

Before pursuing facial cosmetic surgery, it’s important to openly examine the reasons for wanting to change your appearance. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations and are seeking improvement, not perfection. Surgery should be for yourself, not to please others or conform to societal standards.

The goal of plastic surgery is to compliment your natural beauty, reduce anxieties you might have and boost your confidence. Not to completely change who you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions we receive about facial surgery. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The recovery time for facial surgery varies depending on the specific procedure. Generally, those who undergo a facelift cosmetic surgery also known as a rhytidectomy, take around 2 weeks to a month to fully recover. It’s worth noting that bruising will be visible during the first few weeks. Similarly to other cosmetic procedure, the full results may not be visible until at least 6 months to a year. As for post-operation healing and care, your surgeon will provide more specific instructions based on your individual case.

Eligibility depends on several factors, and it’s important to consider each one carefully. These are dependent on:

  • Age – you must be above the legal age.
Lifestyle – you will ideally be in good health and a non-smoker but if you do, avoid smoking well before surgery. No underlying health conditions – candidates can be at risk of complications if they have heart problems, for example, or high blood pressure. Expectations – If you have unwordly expectations then cosmetic surgery isn’t for you, as mentioned above, it is meant to compliment you not change who you are.

There are many questions you should be asking your surgeon or clinic before going for a facial surgery or any kind of cosmetic surgery. Many of the answers will be available online, on your chosen clinic’s web page but we’re here to help you further with that.

Here a few questions you should be asking yourself and your surgeon:

What are your surgeons qualifications and accreditation?

What is their complication and re-operation rate?

What post-operation or after care do they provide?

What if I’m not satisfied with the outcome?

The answers will vary from one cosmetic clinic to the next but they should all have the basic systems in place. For example, your surgeon should be able to clearly inform you what can be done in the even that your cosmetic surgery doesn’t go as expected. And they should also provide, in detail, post surgery instructions which you’ll be expected to follow for a smooth recovery.

As with all cosmetic surgeries, you will be put under anesthesia during your operation. The type of anesthesia that your surgeon will use will vary depending on what your surgery involves. For example, if you were to undergo a full facelift, your surgeon would opt for general anesthesia. This is due to the complexity and time it takes to complete the procedure. Likewise, local anesthesia is usually commonly used on less complex procedures that take less time.

In the majority of cases, patients are eligible for plastic surgery, however there are health problems which could prevent you from being able to get cosmetic surgery. For example, if you have serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, or even depression – you may not be able to get the cosmetic treatment you’d like. This is for your safety as these health conditions could cause complications.
